Just wondering...if everyone here remembers the first time you saw one of Heather's movies or Tv appearences? I started being a fan of hers when I was... I think 9. A friend of my dad's had told me about the Poltergeist movies and then we'd ended up renting all of 'em and watching 'em and I've been a fan of Heather's ever since. Now I'm 19 - and I'm still as much a fan of hers as I was when I was 9. |

I saw her first in the movie. I was 10 when it came out in the theaters. It scared me to death! and so did part II - part III I think I was 14 - and didn't really think too highly of it. Then when she died - I was getting ready for school when I heard it on the radio, and I was so very sad for her. I would watch her old movies and where there used to be fear there was just sadness. She's never really left my thoughts entirely since then. I feel odd saying that because I don't even know her - and I'd never met her. I can't quite explain why she affects me like that. Perhaps I had a crush on her - at the time she was only 3 years younger than me. I often wonder what she would look like now. Without a doubt I know she'd be gorgeous. |

My story is kind of a long one so I'll do my best to shorten it so as to not bore you. I have always been a big fan of horror movies as well as sci-fi, Poltergeist was a perfect marriage of the two. I'm pretty sure that the first time I saw Poltergeist it was on video because I was only 5 when it came out in 82 and I'm certian my parents would not have let me see it then. So, unfortunatly I can't tell you exactly how old I was when I first saw it. If I had to guess, I would estimate it at about 8 or so. Heather struck me as being something special right from the start. I had that same feeling about her that all of you do as well. It's that funny feeling that makes you like her, that makes you want to know more and want to get to know her. These feelings stayed with me and only surfaced when I saw one of her movies on tv or someone brought up her name. Sorry to say that I had actually forgotten that she had died until a few years ago when my brother and I were watching one of the Poltergeist movies on TNT and we started talking about her and the fact that she had died. Those old familiar feelings came back again. (A little background to help you understand the rest of the story) After high school I went to the Connecticut State Fire Academy and graduated with a number of certifications that allowed me to become a certified interior firefighter. Soooo... I did just that. I was involved with a local fire department for a little over five years and even managed to climb in the ranks and become an engineer as well as the vice-president of the association. Anyway... I spent a lot of time pulling mangled bodies from smashed cars and doing my best to save peoples houses while also trying to stay alive. I attended four funerals for fellow firefighters that were not so lucky. Out of all this there was only ONE thing that I couldnt handle. I couldnt mentally deal with seeing a child hurt or worse. There isn't much worse than that for me. An example of the types of things I used to see: We would arrive at the scene of a two-car accident (We called it a code 10) and having to extricate a child from the glove box because that childs mother/father was too STUPID not to require their child to wear a seatbelt. Seeing things like this would enrage me and the first person you wanted to take it out on was the parent, but guess what, they are now DEAD because they werent wearing their seatbelt either. They thought that the airbag would save them, they didnt realize that without your seatbelt on the airbag will break every bone in your face and sometimes shatter your scull. They shouldnt call it an airbag, they should call it cement. It's only soft AFTER it has fully inflated and starts to deflate. When your not wearing your seatbelt, you hit the airbag as it's still inflating and the result is never pretty. So, now what do we have? We have a criticaly wounded child and a dead parent. I dont know how ANYONE can deal with that, I certainly cant! So, I decided to leave the department. (back to the story) Once the movie ended, I went online and did some research on Heather and the first thing I found was Heather O'Rourke: The Memorial Site. I spent hours looking through all the material and educating myself with everything I could dig up on her. I decided that SOMETHING had to be done. I saw that there were several hundred sites about Heather so I decided to do something a little different. I created LivesLostNotForgotten.com which is an online memorial site dedicated to children who have lost their lives. I dedicated this site to Heather O'Rourke. Sadly I have not updated the site in some time now, I have spent most of my time on other things such as this message board. I should add in here that I wouldnt have gotten as far as I have without the help of two of my good friends, Celia Foster and Tara Davis. So, one thing led to another and here I am! I'm sure I left out some important detials but I'm sure your get the general idea. _Tim_ |

I think I was about 8 or 11 when i saw the Movie poltergiest in it but couldn't really remeber her being there but what i remeber her most seeing her in was "Happy Days" I watched it when I was about 11-12 and I remeberd her right off. I didn't know she had passed but thought she stopped acting or something. now 14 years later I was watching E True Hollywood Story the other night and they said she passed away in 1988 I was shocked and stunned so I went on searching about Heather and came here... I was about maybe 7 when I first saw Poltergeist. I remember it well and remember vividly the "little girl with the long blonde hair" as people always said, or "the little girl from Poltergeist" and sometimes they would even mimick, "they're heeeere". So, Throughout my life, I've seen bits and pieces of Poltergeist and used to be like "Oh I love this movie!" without even knowing what it was even called, LOL. But, I learned that it was "Poltergeist". I rented it and LOVED it!! As Tim described the feeling he had for Heather, I had the exact same feeling. She was a special child. Someone who just haunted my mind and was so captivating. I have never seen a child like her with such a pretty face and long hair. She was unique and unbelievably beautiful. I began to really like her in about 6th grade and tried to explain to my friends who she was. Of course, I got weird looks. No one understood. So, I kept my mouth shut and kept her to myself. Since then, everyone thinks I'm weird. So, I don't say much about her. Only to my really close friends. The memorial site was the first site I came across when I did research on Heather. I never realized that she was dead, but was still remember by so many wonderful people. I was so upset when I found out she died, especially since she died a very painful death. She was a person I wanted to know EVERYTHING about. I now have many great items of her to treasure that I have won and purchased privately over the years. And I am still looking today. I am so glad I am able to know who Heather was. She was a remarkable little girl. Heather comes first in everything that I do. She's my hero and a MAJOR inspiration. I can always look up to her to cheer me up. She is my role model in drawing and I have so many photos yet to draw of her. (But I draw other people too.) She's an angel. HEATHER IS #1 IN MY HEART! She's one person I will NEVER forget, NEVER. HAPPY BIRTHDAY HEATHER! Aja |

I think I was 4 or 5 when I first saw Heather in Poltergeist. Then, at age 12, after I dreamt of her, I went to the library to find out why she died. I read the People Tribute article which didn't help me at all. A year later, my mom gave me a book entitled The Hollywood Celebrity Death Book and to my surprise, I found Heather listed under the Natural Causes section. I've been driven to find out all I can about her short life ever since. Here's the entry on Heather I read that day: http://www.heatherorourkeNOSPAM/heathhcdb.jpg |

I was 16 going on 17 the year Heather died. And I actually remember the time quite well, because it was at the end of our summer holidays here in Australia, and I as returning to the school the next day (after hearing of Heather's death). And I remember it well, because it was one of the conversations at school the next day. Also I knew that Bridgette had also died. Although I didn't find out that long ago myself. I think it was sometime last year. I have seen a site somewhere. If I find it I will post it. |

I remember watching Poltergeist the first time but I can't remember exactly when, maybe I was 7 or 8 (I'm born in 1980). I was very impressed by Heather's hair back then (when I was little I really wanted to have long and white hair because I had seen a commercial for a shampoo where the model had long and white hair so I asked my mom if I could use that shampoo believing it would make my hair more blonder). It wasn't until a few years later that I've found out there was a sequel and I saw that and the first one again and I really liked them both. I remember drawing Heather sitting in front of the TV on my school papers. Then in 1993, when I was 13, I saw Poltergeist III and since English isn't my first language I didn't understand the "dedicated to Heather O'Rourke 1975-1988" part at the end I had to ask my mother. She said that she had died only 13 years old (which was only 12 actually) and she was shocked, I remember. I was also very shocked since she had died at the same age I was and I had a difficult time letting it go. We didn't know how she had died but my mother thought she had died from kidney problems because of her swollen cheeks she had in Poltergeist III (your cheeks swell when you have kidney failure - she had swollen cheeks because of treatment with Cortisone) but it wasn't until a few years later that I read in a magazine that she had died from intestinal problems. I never forgot about Heather so in 2001 I went on the inteNOSPAM thinking "now I want to know what really happened to her" and I ended on the Memorial Site |

I think that I have the record here. Don't ask me where I've been. LOL. I never watched any of the movies before until just a few weeks ago. Then I watched the special and found out that she had passed away. I was so saddened to hear that such a sweet angel had to leave us so early. Oh, I'm 56. |

I saw Heather first when I first saw her in the first "Poltergeist" movie, around 1984,or 1985, when I was 5,or 6 years old,but didn't become a fan of hers until I saw her in the third "Poltergeist" movie in 1989,or 1990,when I was 10,or 11 years old. |
