I guess I would like to know... Durring Heather's short time here on earth, did she have the time to enjoy her childhood as every child should? Or was she always too busy with the acting thing. Was acting joy enough for her? I just hope that she was able to have the time to be a kid. It would truly be a shame if she had not the oportunity to just be a kid. I know that if I had the chance I would defNOSPAMly go back to my childhood. The world looks so new and innocent. I would get to experience everything again for the first time. That would be great!

Hi, Tim.
Yes, Heather enjoyed an atypical childhood. Atypical meaning not your average one.

Before her movie debut, she competed and won a lot of local child beauty pagents and talent shows from age 3 to 6 in spite of her shyness.

One of the most extraordinary characteristics about Heather was her precociousness, her early maturity. From the time she was 5, she could memorize lines and soon she was memorizing whole scripts in two hours.

Not only that, but also at age 5, she was able to often tell the difference between real and pretend. When JoBeth Williams had to cry in the "She Just Moved Through Me" scene, Heather, watching off stage, started to cry very hard. When the scene was over, JoBeth told her it was only pretend. Heather immediately stopped crying, straighted up, and replied, "I know that!"

I know from articles, she loved to play with her cabbage patch dolls, Barbie dolls, her dog, Bea, making candy (the snack Carol Anne made at the outside table at her grandma's house is her own concoction) and, yes, watching her older sister get reprimanded when Heather obeyed the rules Tammy hadn't.

To most kids her own age, a young Heather might've seemed like such a snob with her always bragging at show and tell about a tv show or commercial she had done. She was always a perfectionist. As she got older, she came back down to earth, with the kids at her elementary school voting her 5th grade class president. She was very often a straight A student turning in perfect paper after perfect paper.

Most of her very close friends were, in fact, adults or child actors and actresses as mature and easy going as she was. With everyone she came to work with and met, she made friends with.

Heather was a big pranster and a sore loser. Heather was an ordinary kid, and yet she wasn't. She kept to herself when she was angry, doing homework, sewing, reading, playing, and, sadly, when she was ill from 1987 to 1988.

She pushed herself beyond the limit many times, exceeded many expectations, and loved virtually everyone. Sure, there was tremendous pressure on her to support her family in the worst of times when she herself began to slow down, but she thrived on it. Yes, she was happy, and happiest when making her movies and shows. Her family says that's why she is buried in Westwood among some of the biggest stars, because nothing made her feel more whole, more beautiful or more vibriant than her work.

Is it fair to say she enjoyed her childhood? Yes, I believe it is.

Celia, you truly have a wondeful way with words. Reading that has made my heart happy. For that I am in debt to you. Thank you! It warms me to hear that she was happy... I guess I knew she would be but it's so nice to hear someone tell the story, you know? To hear it just seems to make it that much more wonderful. One day we will visit Heather at her resting place and we can share a cry with her. I'm sure she would like you to be there.

About Heather's long hair.....any idea if Heather ever wanted to or thought about cutting her hair but her mom would not let her? Well, her hair is RARE and you never see no children like her. That look make her look like an angel and she was SO natural and has this beauty all in her own. Even if she was older, she might have cut it to get on with the fashion and hairstyles of today. But maybe not because, the "long blonde hair" was her signature and it looked great on her. Everyone knew her because of it. And plus, she would be unique from all the other actresses. And it's okay to be unique. Anyways, it varies if Heather ever cut her hair. But like I said, what about when she was little? Just a thought. Now that I picture it, I think Heather would not be as popular if she cut her hair short and it wouldn't look good. A lot of little girls look good with a style like Heather's. The long hair and perfect bangs. Heather was a perfect child. Even in my art, people right away reconize her. "OH that's the little girl from Poltergeist" I am shocked. It's good to know she's not "forgotten." But I just think it's funny how quickly they react when they see a drawing I did of her, LOL.

Hi,Aja,I read that Heather's mom would wash Heather's Hair In Lemon Juice, but your right she did have beautiful hair!

I know. I did read about her mom washing her hair with lemon juice. It used to keep that "whiteness" in her hair from fading. But I wonder if she ever thought about cutting it. I know lemon juice can high light hair in the sun. No wonder she had super blonde hair. It's better than using those harsh hair dyes.

I read that when Heather needed to cry in a film she was making, she would think about something happening to her dog. And when she needed to be angry she would think about having a fight with her sister Tammy. What did Heather and Tammy generaly fight about.

Good question GarryPatrick! Maybe typical sister stuff. You know how siblings are. But I know that Heather laughed when Tammy broke the rules. That's as far as I can go. Maybe some others know more than me LOL. My brother and I used to fight ALL the time. He used to bug me and get on my nerves. Not to mention he even used to steal my favorite stuffed animals and hide them or do mean things with them LOL.

I am a Heather fan since i first saw her in Poltergeist.I thought she was the most beautiful girl in the world, absolutely stunning. And ,of course,i loved her long hair.I think she wouldn,t have been so popular and charming whithout that gorgeous blonde hair. And obviously her mother thought the same...haven,t you noticed her hair is bleached in Poltergeist 3?.I have coloured blonde hair and i can recognaise a non natural blonde easily.I,m sure Heather was born blonde, but in Poltergeist 2 you can see the difference between her hair and her eyebrows and eyelashes(these are brown). It doesn,t matter for me...she was totally angelic and beautiful.I feel sorry for her,i think her mother didn,t let her have a normal childhood...with no beauty pageants,no acting,no stress,no hair bleaching.I know a lot of you may disagree, but try to imagine a child of your own working for money since 4 or 5 years old.I don,t like that much, she should have been playing around, learning, reading, having lots of friends. That,s my opinion and i don,t prtend to disturb anybody.

Hi Scarlett,

I do agree with what you said but Heather seemed to truly like what she was doing. But yes, maybe she missed out on being a child somewhat. Now Jon BNOSPAM (JohnbNOSPAM? Whatever...) was really a sad case. If you want to see something really sick look for a show on TLC called "Painted Babies". It's about little girls in beauty contests. It was scary! I might have it on tape somewhere. I'll have to look for it. My cousin's daughter Courtney is five years old. She is in Washington state right now acting in the Stephan King movie "The Diary of Ellen Rimbauer", it's part of the mini series "Rose Red". This is the second movie that she has been in. I have no clue what the first movie was called or if they cut her scenes. She also does model work in adds and such. She seems to love it all tho. She already has her college money saved up.

Hey Curtis and Scarlett,

About Heather's hair: I do think her hair was natural. I HAVE seen kids with the color hair like Heather's. I don't think it was dyed. But also, remember that Heather lived in Calafornia. So, her hair was super blonde from the sun. Sun can lighten your hair. And also, her mom used lemon juice. I don't really think her mom pushed her. But yes, I can see what you mean about Heather not really having a normal childhood. As for JonBNOSPAM, no. I believe she suffered GREATLY and her mom was a pushy woman who wanted JonBNOSPAM, who was a beauty queen, to take her mom's place. But, now that she was killed, I do think her mom did it. At least JonBNOSPAM is in a better place where she doesn't have to do anymore pageants and she's with the angels. I HAVE heard of "Painted Babies" and I WOULD like to see it. If it ever comes on TV, let me know! I think I have that channel, TLC. Even though I don't have cable. (I'm still begging my mom for it. So far no luck.) And also, your eye brows and lashes are supposed to be darker than your hair. (But I have seen red haired kids with light eye lashes.) But yes, Heather's hair was very bright in Poltegeist 3. Unless I am just seeing things, but remember about the sun and lemon juice. Some children have it hard, but I do think Heather did enjoy it too.
But in conclusion, I don't think Heather had a drop of dye in her hair. I think she was just unique and had a beauty of her own, that you can't find anywhere else. But there is hair that color. But it's very rare. Like, platinum blonde. As for JonBNOSPAM HER hair was dyed. And I have proof it was. Her mother was a nut. I REALLY felt bad for JonBNOSPAM. She was a beautiful child. And Heather too of course. They both were.

Hi Scarlett, I too had some reserves about Kathy washing Heather's hair in lemon juice. But at leased she didn't use peroxide or dyes, and lemon juice is good for your hair.
As for the pagent, having your children out in the public isn't negative. It does build charater and confidence. Both of which probably got Heather started on her acting career.
I don't believe Heather missed out on her childhood. What would you have. Her staying home watching TV. Other kids also have contructed lives where they are into music or sports and they lead productive lives. Heather also went to public school and was even voted class president in the 5th grade.
Remember, Kathy loved her daughter very much, and was Heather's best friend. When Heather died she was buried at Westwood Memorial Park because she loved acting so much and would be happier being with other like her.
By Kathy's raising Heather in the public eyes, Heather will never be forgotten. Changed one thing in her life and the world would never had known Heather, and she would most likely still have died of bowel obstruction and the world would never have known that Heather O'Rourke ever existed.

Hi Aja,

TLC (The Learning Channel) is a cable channel. I'll look for "Painted Babies" and send it to you if you would like. I hope I still have it. These Moms were NASTY to their daughters when they did not win. As for Heather having dyed hair I have no clue. I never wondered about it actually. I just thought it was natural.

Hi Garry,

Well in "Painted Babies" the Mothers certainly were not doing their daughters any favors by putting them out in public. Oh man it made me sick! The little girls were wearing makeup, skimpy clothes and at least one mother told her four year old daughter to act sexy! One grandmother told her granddaughter to go and win "Because grandmom needs a new car"!

That show "Painted Babies" was SO aggravating! I wanted to punch out each of the mothers/grandmothers on that show whenever one of them would open their mouths. They made me so mad! Can you imagine pressuring a little child like that to win an award because YOU need the money for a car? She probably wanted a Jaguar, no less.

Hi Sabrina,

You could tell that all of those mothers were in it for the money. They badgered those poor girls. I used to date a girl who had a child. She took her daughter to an modeling agency in New York and people who ran it were so skeevy she said No Way!

Heather loved what she was doing. I don't think her Mom would ever push her into doing something that she did not want to do. Heather seemed to be very well thought out, she knew what she wanted at a young age and think she would have gone far.

Heather liked country and western, even when the rest of her family didn't. I'm curious what kind of music did Kathy, Jim and Tammy listened to.
What was her favorite group and did she ever went to their concerts or to any others.

Good point about pageants building self confidence, Garry Patrick. I can see what you mean. Unfortunatly, there are other bad sides to beauty pageants. As I have mentioned in a previous post, JonBNOSPAM Ramsey went through A LOT, and even though she enjoyed it, you can't deny the fact that doing SO much work (modeling lessons, voice and dancing lessons, gruel eight hour photo sessions, being fitted for costumes that cost thousands of dollars, appointments to the salon for hair and nails and spending money on the best make up out there and including the "pageant scrub" as Patsy called it. They would scrub JonBNOSPAM spanking clean for pageants. You have to admit that is stressing and somewhat not good for JonBNOSPAM's health. She was growing up WAY too fast for her age and we're talking about a six year old here, not a 12 or 15 year old. No doubt, Patsy was crazy. But Kathleen, back in the day I don't think it was AS bad. So, I do think Heathere DID get to enjoy herself. I believe pageants do build self confidence, but unfortunatly, they also bring about abusive mothers who scream and spank there child when they don't win. The pageants are not as glamorous as they look. They have MANY sad secrets behind them. Sorry if this is SO off topic, but I thought a little aspect of the pageant world would contribute to Heather in pageants and acting. Even though they are both totally different things. At least Heather wasn't "dolled up" like JonBNOSPAM for a pageant. But yes, without make up, JonBNOSPAM was a beautiful child. And so was Heather.

Hey Curtis!

Thank you SO much! I would LOVE to see the tape! And yes, I have seen this program a long time ago about mothers beating there children if they didn't win. I just got done typing this post about JonBNOSPAM in beauty pageants and comparing them with Heather in pageants. And like I said, pageants are NOT as glamourous as they look! Anyways, please do find that tape and keep in touch! I'll give you my address when things are worked out. Take care!

Granny wants a new car and mommy want her to be "sexy?" Now THAT'S a disgrace! Told you pageants were horrible! I would NEVER enter my child in a pageant. Even if she was the most beautiful child in the world. That's what being humble is all about.

Hi Aja,

I looked for the tape tonight but have not found it yet. I'll look again this weekend. I hope I still have it. It was so disturbing that I might have taped over over it. I think the BBC produced "Painted Babies".

After Heather been acting for a few years, she bought her mother a new home. I wonder if Heather picked out the house and if her name was on the house deed. And if Kathy still lives in the same house.

No I highly doubt Heather's name is still on the house deed. And also, her mom lives in Las Vegas I believe with Tammy (if not WITH Tammy, then near Tammy.)

When Heather had to move from her house in Big Beaver to Lakeside I read that her family got a 2 bedroom apartment and that Tammy wasn't mention of being with them. Was Tammy on her own at that time or in college.

Heather didn't bleach her hair. The lemon juice was used in the summertime to get the chlorine out of her hair. It would turn her hair green. She was in the pool from morning until night and it was green from June until September.

Hi all.About how intelligent Heather was. It's funny how,in the third "Poltergeist" movie, the guy who played Dr. Seaton in the movie, tells the 3 people visiting the school that Heather's character had an IQ well into the 150's,and from what I've heard about how smart Heather was,I wouldn't be surprised if,in real life, she had an IQ that high, did she? Just curious. Also,as far as her beauty,I agree that Heather was such a pretty child, especially at around age 5,the age she was when they were filming the first "Poltergeist" movie. She was such a cutie in that one. It's why I hope to name my daughter after her character, because I hope my daughter's as cute, and pretty as Heather was.She was such a great pick to play the part because I feel that the name Carol Anne is the perfect, prettiest name for such a pretty little girl like Heather was.Well, got to run,I just thought I'd add my two cents, bye now!
